There are so many meds that can be recommended by psychiatrists for anxiety. Meds can be helpful in reducing anxiety, yet they don’t address the triggers and/or reasons as to why it arises. Rickmansworth Hypnotherapy often works with GPs who recommend either benzodiazepines or antidepressants to assist with people managing anxiety.
Benzodiazepines, otherwise called sedatives, are the most well-known medications. Benzodiazepines are often known by the brand names Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, and Atvian. These medications assist an individual to relax rapidly by producing results very soon after being taken. Tragically, this only briefly reduces most of the side effects of the anxiety. And, there are significant disadvantages to them, including users experiencing a general feeling of apathy and an inability to experience extreme joy and happiness. Additionally, over sedation can occur since these meds are processed very gradually by the body and so the body needs to keep increasing the dose to feel the same effects. Over time, over sedation can lead to depression, a feeling of worthlessness and an inability to deal with life.
Another anxiety treatment is antidepressants. Antidepressants work to raise an individual’s state of mind by managing the serotonin levels in the cerebrum. The most well known antidepressants are Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Lexapro, and Celexa. It can take several months before antidepressants start to treat anxiety. There are also many side effects including sickness, extreme anxiety, cerebral pains, sluggishness, sexual issues, stomach pains and weight gain. It can also be challenging to stop taking them due to several side effects upon withdrawal including depression, weakness, mood swings and insomnia.

It also works to change the individual’s mindset, replacing negative viewpoints with positive alternatives. Rickmansworth Hypnotherapy also guides the individual into progressive relaxation after which they are encouraged to confront their fears and anxiety to reduce its impact on them.
